Fuelling Performance: The Role of Nutrition in Jersey Sport’s Performance Sport Programme

In 2024, Jersey Sport proudly launched its inaugural Performance Sport Programme, supporting 24 of the island’s most talented athletes across 11 different sports. With the goal of helping these athletes reach their full potential, the programme combines financial grants with access to a tailored, multi-disciplinary support package. And at the heart of that performance package? Nutrition.

As the nutrition partner in this exciting new programme, we are thrilled to provide evidence-based, sport-specific nutritional support that empowers each athlete to train smarter, recover faster, and compete at their best.

Why Nutrition Matters in Performance Sport

No matter the discipline whether it’s athletics, cycling, triathlon, or judo, nutrition is a crucial pillar of performance. It influences every aspect of an athlete’s development: energy levels, endurance, strength, recovery, and even mental focus. That’s why this programme doesn’t just focus on the physical and tactical sides of sport, but the full picture of what it takes to succeed at the highest levels.

Through one-to-one consultations, tailored fuelling strategies, hydration guidance, and education around supplements and recovery nutrition, we ensure each athlete is supported with a plan that fits their unique needs, goals, and training demands.

Supporting Athletes with Knowledge and Confidence

In addition to helping athletes make the most of their training and competition schedules, we’ve also focused on education. Equipping young athletes with the knowledge and tools to make confident nutrition choices is key to long-term success. We’ve delivered sessions on:

  • Daily fuelling and energy availability

  • Competition day nutrition planning

  • Recovery nutrition and sleep support

  • Navigating supplements and anti-doping considerations

These sessions not only support performance, but also promote athlete health and longevity in sport.

We’re proud to be part of a wider network of experts - working alongside coaches, strength and conditioning specialists, psychologists, physios, and media trainers - all collaborating to create a robust environment for performance development.
