Supporting Team GB's Future: True Food's Partnership with TASS

At True Food, our mission is simple: to help athletes perform at their best through world-class, evidence-based nutrition.

We’re proud to be delivering that mission through our partnerships with the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) at both University of Southampton and Swansea University - two recognised high-performance environments supporting athletes on the Olympic and Paralympic pathway.

Across the two Universities, over 50 athletes across 12 sports are supported

A National Pathway to Elite Sport

The athletes we support through TASS range from emerging talent to current senior internationals, with many competing at European, World and Commonwealth level, and some already representing Team GB or ParalymicsGB. Others are working towards future selection on the Olympic and Paralympic pathway.

Through an integrated system of support, including strength & conditioning, physiotherapy, psychology, lifestyle management, and performance nutrition, athletes are given the tools they need to bridge the gap between junior and elite performance.

Crucially, this is delivered alongside their academic journey, creating a “dual career” pathway that supports both performance and long-term development.

Two Performance Environments, One Shared Goal

Both Southampton and Swansea provide athletes with access to high-quality facilities, experienced practitioners, and structured performance programmes.

While each environment has its own strengths, the goal is the same: to create athletes who are not only capable of competing at the highest level, but are also resilient, educated, and prepared for long-term success.

This is where True Food integrates into the system, ensuring nutrition underpins every aspect of that development.

Where True Food Fits In

Nutrition is one of the most powerful and often underutilised performance tools available.

Across both universities, we support athletes through:

  • Individualised performance nutrition strategies

  • Education on fuelling for training, competition, and recovery

  • Evidence-based supplement guidance

  • Practical systems that fit around student-athlete life

Our approach is always grounded in real-world application, making sure athletes can consistently execute, not just understand, their nutrition.

Case Studies: Supporting Athletes Across Sports

One of the most exciting aspects of this partnership is the diversity of athletes we support.

Across both programmes, we work with athletes from a wide range of sports, each with unique physiological and performance demands:

  • Sailing athletes managing long-duration energy demands and hydration strategies

  • Goalball athletes requiring precise fuelling for repeated high-intensity efforts

  • BMX and skateboarding athletes balancing power, recovery, and competition readiness

  • Para-archery athletes focusing on consistency, focus, and competition-day fuelling

  • Squash and badminton players needing high-intensity repeatability and recovery

  • Taekwondo athletes managing weight, speed, and explosive performance

  • Motocross athletes dealing with endurance, heat, and concentration demands

  • Snowboarding athletes preparing for high-skill, high-impact performance environments

  • Flag football athletes combining speed, power, and tactical awareness

While the sports differ, the principle remains the same:
fuel the work, support recovery, and build consistency over time.

Why This Matters

At this level, performance is built on marginal gains.

The difference between progressing, medalling, or missing out often comes down to how well the fundamentals are executed and nutrition is a key part of that foundation.

By embedding nutrition within the wider TASS support system, athletes are not just given advice, they are supported in applying it consistently, alongside coaching, medical, and performance services.

Building Future Olympians

This partnership reflects what True Food stands for.

Not just working with athletes at the top, but supporting them on the journey there.

From emerging talent to international competitors, we are proud to play a role in developing the next generation of Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

Because reaching the highest level isn’t just about talent.

It’s about doing the basics consistently at the highest standard.

And nutrition is one of the most powerful tools to make that happen.
