We fuelled World Record breaking rowers

Fuelled for Glory: Supporting Jack and Freddie - The Atlantic Castaways - on Their Record-Breaking Row

‘‘True Food was the best investment we made as the Atlantic Castaways, apart from our boat! They got us race ready and fat enough to row across the Atlantic and break the World Record”

Rowing 3,000 nautical miles across the Atlantic Ocean is a monumental feat. Doing it as the youngest pair ever to take on the world’s toughest rowing race? That’s something extraordinary. We’re incredibly proud to have fuelled Jack and Freddie, a.k.a. The Atlantic Castaways, in their record-breaking journey from La Gomera to Antigua—a crossing that earned them a Guinness World Record and a permanent place in ocean rowing history.

12 Months of Preparation for 47 Days at Sea

Our work with Jack and Freddie began a full year before they set off. Over 12 months, we developed and delivered a complete performance nutrition plan that supported their intense training, healthy weight gain, immune system, recovery, and race-day resilience.

Knowing they’d be rowing 2 hours on, 2 hours off, 24/7, with an average energy expenditure of nearly 10,000kcal per day, the plan had to be watertight - literally and figuratively.

Race Day Nutrition: 6,000 Calories a Day, Every Day

To match the demands of ocean rowing, we carefully designed a daily 6,000kcal food pack for the race. Each pack was:

  • High in energy, with a focus on carbs and fats for endurance

  • Packed with diverse, easy-to-eat options, even in rough seas

  • Supported with a detailed supplement plan to enhance immunity, reduce inflammation, and maintain performance

  • Tested and refined to ensure the boys enjoyed every bite - even 30 days in

From freeze-dried meals to nut butters, snack bars, electrolyte drinks, and recovery shakes - every item served a purpose. And most importantly, it worked: body weight gained during training was lost exactly as planned, helping them stay strong and fuelled across all 47 days, 14 hours, and 46 minutes at sea.

More Than Fuel—A Strategy for Success

This wasn’t just about stuffing calories into a bag. It was about building a resilient fuelling strategy—one that would keep them energised, mentally focused, and protected from illness in the harshest of conditions.

Every decision was based on research, testing, and the specific demands of rowing across an ocean. And the result? Jack and Freddie not only completed the race - they smashed it.

Congratulations to The Atlantic Castaways - Jack and Freddie - on becoming the youngest pair ever to row across an ocean. You brought the grit, we brought the fuel. What a team.
