Our ‘cookie collab’ with Ganache Jersey
Can you create a cookie that tastes indulgent, but also delivers 14g of protein?
That was the challenge we set ourselves when True Food teamed up with fellow Jersey business, Ganache, to create something a little different.
As nutritionists, we spend a lot of time talking to athletes and active people about the importance of getting enough protein into their diets. But we also know that nutrition doesn't need to be all about chicken, eggs, protein shakes and carefully measured meals.
Sometimes, you just want a cookie.
And that is where Ganache came in.

Two local businesses, one shared idea
True Food and Ganache are both Jersey-based businesses, but our areas of expertise are very different.
At True Food, our focus is nutrition, helping people understand how food can support health, performance, recovery and body composition. We work with everyone from recreational exercisers to competitive athletes, as well as local businesses, teams and organisations.
Ganache, meanwhile, knows a thing or two about making delicious food.
Their baking expertise and understanding of flavour, texture and what makes a genuinely great cookie provided the perfect complement to our nutrition knowledge.
The idea was simple: combine the two.
We wanted to create a cookie that people would actually want to eat, while making it a useful source of protein for active people.
The challenge: make protein taste good
Anyone who has tried a protein cookie before will know that getting the balance right isn't always easy.
Adding protein to a recipe can have a significant impact on the texture, moisture and flavour of a baked product. Too much and you can end up with something dry, dense or overly "protein-y".
Our aim wasn't to create a cookie that tasted like a compromise.
We wanted a proper cookie first and a protein product second.
That meant plenty of testing, tweaking and tasting to find the right balance between nutrition and enjoyment.
The end result is a cookie containing 14g of protein per cookie, giving athletes and active people an easy and enjoyable way to add more protein to their day.
The final product - Ganache x True Food Protein Cookie
Why protein?
Protein plays an important role in muscle repair, recovery and adaptation following exercise. For people who train regularly, getting enough protein across the day can be an important part of supporting their goals.
But protein doesn't have to come exclusively from traditional "fitness foods".
One of the things we regularly encourage at True Food is finding practical ways to improve nutrition without making food unnecessarily complicated.
A protein cookie can be particularly useful as a convenient snack:
After training, when you want something easy and enjoyable
Between meals, when you need something more substantial
On the go, when you're travelling to or from training
As part of a recovery meal or snack
Or simply because you fancy a cookie!
And that's an important point.
Nutrition doesn't have to mean boring
We don't believe that eating well means removing the foods you enjoy.
In fact, we think the opposite can often be true.
The best approach to nutrition is one that fits into your lifestyle and is sustainable over the long term. There is room for cookies, chocolate, meals out and all the other foods people enjoy.
The difference is understanding how those foods can fit into the bigger picture.
This collaboration was a great example of that philosophy in practice: take something people already love and see whether we could make it work harder nutritionally without taking away what makes it enjoyable.
Supporting local businesses in Jersey
One of the things we particularly love about this project is that it is a collaboration between two independent Jersey businesses.
There is a huge amount of talent and expertise within our local community, and collaborations like this give businesses the opportunity to combine their strengths and create something that neither could necessarily produce on their own.
For us, it was about bringing our nutritional knowledge and understanding of what athletes need to the table.
For Ganache, it was about bringing their baking experience, creativity and expertise.
The result is something that sits nicely between performance nutrition and everyday enjoyment.
Built for athletes. Made for cookie lovers.
Although the original idea was driven by the needs of local athletes and active people, you certainly don't need to be an athlete to enjoy it.
If you're someone who loves cookies but also wants to increase your protein intake, it offers a convenient middle ground.
And for athletes, particularly those with busy schedules, having convenient options that are enjoyable can make hitting nutritional targets much easier.
Because ultimately, good nutrition has to work in the real world.
It needs to taste good. It needs to be convenient. And, most importantly, it needs to be something you actually want to eat.
We're really pleased with what we've created together and incredibly grateful to the team at Ganache for bringing their baking expertise to the project.
It's been a brilliant example of what can happen when nutrition knowledge meets proper baking skills.
14g of protein. One very tasty cookie. Two Jersey businesses.
And hopefully, the first of many collaborations to come.
